How Do I Print Architectural Plans?

Changes can be made and approved very suddenly, so a lot of architects and builders need to be able to get their hands on new drawings quickly. One barrier to this can be if they don’t know how to print architectural drawings and plans.

Architectural drawings and plans can contain a lot of small information on a very large scale. Our HP Designjet Z6 can print plans in sizes:

-A2 (420mm x 594mm)

-A1 (594mm x 841mm)

-A0 (841mm x 1189mm)

-and any sizes between these as well, if you have something custom

These plans are usually made in architectural software, and saves CAD CAM documents as .stl files to keep them true to scale.

As with all printing, a PDF is going to be the ideal format to send us documents as we have no CAD CAM software on board. Be sure to save as or export your plans as PDF or TIF. While we can print from JPGS, this file type is not usually suited to drawings, and it would have to be converted to PDF anyway (this can affect its print quality).

It is useful to be aware of the file size limit when emailing plans across. Depending on how large or detailed they are, sometimes you can overshoot the 25MB maximum that can be attached to emails. WeTransfer.com is a great (vitally: FREE) way to bundle all the drawings into one folder. This will save you splitting all attachments across multiple emails and hoping none vanish into the spam filter.

Finally, let us know if you want your plans rolled or folded to A4 size, and we can have these ready for your arrival at our shop.
