Foamex, or foam board, is made of compressed layers of PVC foam, where the outer layer is a smooth flat surface that can be printed onto. Even double sided!
Being completely rigid, it can stand up to being displayed indoors and outdoors with little bending or breaking. You can also drill through Foamex to attach it to fences using plastic or string ties. If you need a customized shape, this can be done by laser cutting as well.
And being made of foam, it is incredibly lightweight. This makes it ideal for standing on an easel or display stand as well as affixing to walls with Velcro or double-sided tape. Not to mention, this makes it easy to carry to and from exhibitions and events.
Foamex boards come in a variety of thickness; 3mm, 5mm and 10mm. 5mm is an all around safe bet for most projects, as it is thick enough for extra durability while not being too cumbersome.
The boards can range from A5s all the way up to A0, and bespoke sizes in between. If need ever needed something larger than A0, a safer option is to have the design split across multiple boards. Being flat and rigid, a larger surface area is more likely to snap if forced.
